Ducal Castle in Oleśnica
The Ducal Castle in Oleśnica is the most valuable and impressive monument of the town, and one of the most precious in Lower Silesia. Built in the 14th century, it is situated in the south-western part of the former city fortifications. Earlier, possibly before 1238, a ducal stronghold existed here, and in 1245 a castellany was established. Today the castle is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, 12:00–18:00 (closed on Mondays). During a visit you can discover over 700 years of history of this residence, explore the courtyard with a summer parrot house, the viewing tower, the dragon's grotto, the torture chamber, and permanent and temporary exhibitions. For children and school groups, educational programmes are available, led by the ducal alchemist Pepełko. The castle houses the café „Pod Papugami”, offering coffee and pastries baked in the castle kitchen. The venue also provides space for conferences, training sessions, and team-building events. In August 2026, the castle will host the OFCA 2026 festival, featuring new circus performances, concerts, and slackline shows. It is a place that delights both history enthusiasts and families seeking an exciting adventure.
