Książ Castle in Wałbrzych is the third-largest castle in Poland, set amidst the forests of the Książ Landscape Park. Its history spans over 700 years, with the first mentions dating back to 1288-1292, when Duke Bolko I the Strict built a stronghold here. Over the centuries, the castle belonged to, among others, Czech and Hungarian kings, and from 1509 to 1941 it was the seat of the Hochberg family, who transformed it into a magnificent Baroque and Neo-Renaissance residence. During World War II, the Nazis took over the castle and conducted mysterious construction work in its cellars as part of Project "Riese". After the war, the castle was devastated by the Red Army, but since 1991, under municipal management, it has been open to visitors. Sightseeing includes representative interiors, terraces and gardens, as well as underground bunkers and tunnels. The terraces offer picturesque views of the surroundings. There are also viewpoints for tourists, and a palm house is located nearby. The castle offers guided tours and audio guides, and on-site there is a café, restaurant, and gift shop. This place will delight both history enthusiasts and families with children (aged 6 and up).
