Viaduct

The viaduct in Jelenia Góra is a historic railway bridge spanning the Bóbr River. It was built as part of the railway line connecting Jelenia Góra with Zgorzelec and Berlin, constructed between 1865 and 1866. The original brick viaduct with eight spans was opened on September 9, 1866. In May 1945, retreating German troops blew up the bridge. Between 1951 and 1954, a new structure was erected, which is still considered one of the most beautiful viaducts in Poland. The current structure is made of reinforced concrete and rests on a single ellipsoidal arch, 33 meters high. Its design differs significantly from the original. The viaduct is an interesting example of post-war engineering and a popular photographic spot in the Borowy Jar area. It appeals to both history enthusiasts and fans of industrial architecture.
