Kłodzko Fortress is one of the largest and most important fortresses in Europe, located in the heart of Kłodzko, just above the market square. Its history dates back to the 10th century, when a defensive stronghold was built here, later replaced by a castle. Today it is a unique monument of modern military architecture that for centuries protected the town and the region. Visitors can explore two routes: the upper main route and the underground countermine corridors. The main route leads through the most interesting places, such as the Tumski Courtyard, Alarm Bastion, Lazaret, and Donżon, and features multimedia presentations about the life of Prussian soldiers. From the terraces, there is a panorama of the town and surrounding mountains. The underground, accessible only with a guide, is a labyrinth of corridors stretching 7 km, with a constant temperature of 6–8°C. This place is full of history – during World War II it served as a prison and weapons factory. For fans of the TV series 'Four Tank-Men and a Dog', the T-34 tank Rudy 102 and the famous stairs on the Alarm Bastion are a must-see. The fortress is open all year round, and workshops and picnics are organized for children. You can also book a cannon shot here. It is an ideal place for history lovers, families, and anyone wanting to discover the military past of Lower Silesia.
