Walim Adits

The Walim Adits are an underground tourist route in Walim, in the Owl Mountains, forming part of the Rzeczka complex built during World War II as part of the secret project 'Riese' ('Giant'). German construction works, carried out since 1943, were never completed, and their purpose remains a mystery to this day – it is speculated that underground arms factories or a headquarters for the Third Reich's High Command were planned here. Visitors follow a roughly 500-metre route enhanced with audiovisual effects evoking the atmosphere of that era. The site features exhibitions of military relics, including a Bailey bridge, a V1 flying bomb and a V2 rocket, as well as an exhibition of graphics by Imre Holló and an outdoor display dedicated to the AL 'Riese' subcamp, prepared in cooperation with the Gross-Rosen Museum in Rogoźnica. Tourist information point, a campfire site, a café and a gift shop are available to visitors. Guided tours last about 45 minutes, and audio guides in several languages can be rented on site. The facility is open seasonally, so it is worth checking opening hours before visiting. Due to the low temperature underground, warm clothing is recommended. It is an interesting attraction for both adults and families with children over 6 years old.
