Sowie Mountains

The Sowie Mountains are a picturesque mountain range in southwestern Poland, located between Wałbrzych and Kłodzko in Lower Silesia. The region is known for its beautiful landscapes, but also for its mysterious history connected with World War II. One of the main attractions is the Riese complex, an extensive system of underground tunnels and corridors carved into the mountains, which according to hypotheses was intended to serve as Hitler's headquarters. Nearby is also the Silver Mountain Fortress, the largest mountain fortress in Europe, which was never captured. Hiking enthusiasts can head to Wielka Sowa, the highest peak of the Sowie Mountains, from which there is a view over a large part of Lower Silesia. At the summit stands an observation tower that makes it easier to admire the panorama. It is an ideal place for families, organized groups, and school trips, offering both contact with nature and a history lesson. In the area there are public transport stops and bicycle parking, making it easy to reach and explore. Visiting the main attractions can take more than four hours, so it is worth planning a full day to explore this fascinating corner of Poland.
