The German Museum of Technology in Berlin is one of the largest and most fascinating museums in the German capital. Located on Trebbiner Straße, it occupies a vast complex of several buildings and a park, divided into two main areas with separate entrances. The museum was founded in 1982 on the grounds of the former transshipment station of the defunct Anhalter Bahnhof, and its collections originate from the Royal Museum of Transport and Construction. Today, the collection spans many fields, from railways, aviation, and shipping to road transport, the history of sugar, textiles, chemistry, pharmacy, film and photography technology, computer science, and printing. In the historic locomotive sheds from the 19th century, visitors can admire locomotives and carriages, including a carriage of Emperor Wilhelm II and a carriage used for the deportation of Jews during World War II. In the new wing, topped with a Douglas C-47B aircraft, are aviation and maritime exhibitions, including the only surviving Jeannin Stahltaube aircraft. The second building houses a collection of several hundred vehicles as well as the Spectrum Science Center with 150 interactive stations, ideal for children. In the museum park, there are two windmills and a historic brewery. A visit requires at least 2-3 hours, and many exhibits have descriptions in English. The complex is largely accessible to people with disabilities, except for the mills and brewery. Tickets cost 15 euros online or 17 euros at the box office, with concessions for students and pupils, while children under 18 enter free. On Fridays after 1 PM, the museum can be visited free of charge with an online reservation.
