Castle of Warmian Bishops in Lidzbark Warmiński

The Castle of Warmian Bishops in Lidzbark Warmiński is a Gothic stronghold from the 14th century, often called the Wawel of the North. For nearly 450 years it served as the center of power for the Warmian bishops, and among its residents were Nicolaus Copernicus and Ignacy Krasicki. The castle is famous for its unique two-story cloisters, beneath which medieval polychrome paintings were hidden for 500 years. Visitors can admire the Great Refectory with a heraldic frieze of bishops, a Rococo chapel with original organs, and chambers dedicated to Copernicus and Krasicki. The castle also houses a painting gallery featuring works by Malczewski, Mehoffer, and Beksiński, among others. This place will delight lovers of history, art, and architecture. The castle is accessible to families, organized groups, and school trips, and inside there is a café and a gift shop. It is worth allocating at least two hours for a leisurely tour of all the rooms.
