Uranium Mine in Kletno

The Uranium Mine in Kletno is a former uranium mine from the 1950s, located on the northern slope of Żmijowiec in the Śnieżnik Massif, near the village of Kletno in Stronie Śląskie. The facility was established during the Cold War, when uranium ore was extracted here for the Soviet nuclear program under a Polish-Soviet agreement. Today, part of the workings is open as an Underground Tourist and Educational Route, which leads through a 400-meter section of colorful corridors. Visitors can admire the preserved workings as well as unique minerals such as fluorite, amethyst, milky quartz, barite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, and malachite. The route is known for its colorful walls and is considered one of the most colorful adits in Europe. During the tour, you can learn about the 600-year history of mining in Kletno, as well as the geological history of the Śnieżnik Massif, covering the last 500 million years of evolution. The mine also offers geological workshops, field games, night tours, and extreme expeditions that appeal to both children and adults. The temperature inside is constant at 7°C, and the site is safe in terms of radiation. The mine is open daily from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and tours are guided. It is an attraction for families, school groups, and anyone interested in history and geology.
