Lake Dzierżno Duże

Lake Dzierżno Duże, also known as Lake Rzeczyckie, is a water reservoir located in Gliwice, Silesian Voivodeship. It was created in 1964 in a post-mining excavation pit in the Kłodnica valley. Covering over 516 hectares, it forms a wild natural complex together with the smaller Lake Dzierżno Małe. The area appeals to nature lovers and hikers rather than those seeking developed beaches. On the Rzeczyce side (Piaskowa Street) there is a sandy beach popular for family picnics in summer. On the Taciszów side (Wąska, Sportowa Streets) picturesque peninsulas offer opportunities to observe wild waterfowl – they are very shy, so quiet is required. Dogs are allowed on walks, but the terrain is not wheelchair accessible. Entry is free, and parking is free. A notable fact: remains of a woolly mammoth and a woolly rhinoceros were found here; their reconstructions are displayed at the Piast Castle Museum in Gliwice and at the Geopoint in Pyskowice. The lake is connected to the Gliwice Canal, which facilitates navigation.
