Horse Cemetery in Kliczków
The Horse Cemetery in Kliczków is a historic site located in the village of Kliczków, in the heart of the Lower Silesian Forest. It was established in 1881 on the initiative of the zu Solms-Baruth family and is the oldest and one of the few such places in Europe. This unusual, intimate complex commemorates the horses that served in the nearby princely stud farm. Today, the cemetery is an interesting attraction for lovers of history, nature, and unusual monuments. Its open space and location away from city lights make it an excellent observation point. It is here that on August 12, 2026, one will be able to witness a unique astronomical phenomenon: a partial solar eclipse, which in the Lower Silesia region will reach 84-85% coverage of the solar disk, as well as the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. The eclipse will begin around 7:17 PM, with its culmination at 8:09 PM, just before sunset. A few hours later, hundreds of meteors will streak across the night sky, and the clean air of the Lower Silesian Forest will ensure excellent visibility. This place will surely appeal to families with children, as well as couples or groups of friends seeking unusual attractions. A visit to the horse cemetery is a short but memorable walk amidst history and nature.
