Open-Air Museum in Tokarnia

The Open-Air Museum in Tokarnia, part of the Kielce Countryside Museum, is located in Chęciny, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. Established in 1976, this vast ethnographic park showcases traditional wooden architecture and folk culture of the Kielce region. It features dozens of 19th-century wooden structures, including cottages, a church, a manor house, a windmill, a granary, and a forge, all furnished with original artifacts. The museum is divided into sectors: small-town, upland, manor-farm, Świętokrzyskie, Vistula, and loess. Highlights include the oldest building, a cottage from Szydłów built in 1705, which houses an exhibition of a Jewish tailor's workshop. The early 19th-century manor from Suchedniów illustrates the life of the middle-class nobility, while the 1763 church from Rogów impresses with its Rococo interior. Children enjoy farm animals like goats, sheep, chickens, and horses. The museum is open year-round with free admission, parking, toilets, a café, and a restaurant. Guided tours are available, and the site is stroller- and pet-friendly. It is perfect for families and history enthusiasts.
