Museum of the Battle of Legnica in Legnickie Pole

The Museum of the Battle of Legnica in Legnickie Pole is a monographic institution dedicated to one of the most important battles in medieval Poland. It is housed in a historic post-Benedictine church of the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary, erected in the second half of the 14th century, according to tradition on the spot where the body of Duke Henry II the Pious was found. The permanent exhibition, titled 'Meeting of Two Worlds. Memory of the Battle of Legnica 1241', presents the circumstances of the Mongol invasion of Polish lands and the course and consequences of the battle fought on 9 April 1241. Visitors can see artefacts, weapons, and elements of knightly equipment, as well as learn about the history of commemorating this event. The museum is a branch of the Copper Museum in Legnica and has been promoting knowledge about the battle and Duke Henry II the Pious since 1961. It offers guided tours, making a visit attractive for adults, families, and school groups. After renovation in 1960, the building was adapted for museum purposes, retaining its historic church character. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 AM–5:00 PM, with free admission on Wednesdays. It is a place that helps understand the medieval history of Silesia and Poland, combining history with reflection on memory.
