Main Heritage Adit
The Main Heritage Adit is an underground tourist route in Zabrze, Upper Silesia, part of the Queen Luiza Adit complex. Opened to visitors in 2018, it showcases two hundred years of mining history in the region. The route, about 1.5 km long, runs between the Carnall and Wilhelmina shafts and includes a boat trip. Visitors can see, among others, a corridor carved in coal, three reconstructed mining faces from different periods, an exhibition of old mining tools, and a section with two parallel adits created as a desperate attempt to bypass leaks. Originally, the adit was a 15-kilometer tunnel dug from 1799 to 1863 to drain mines and transport coal to Gliwice, but due to technological progress it quickly became obsolete. Today, it offers a chance to experience the hardship of miners' work and learn about the evolution of extraction techniques. The attraction is suitable for everyone, including families with children, and nearby are also Park 12C and the Military Technology Park.
