Herbst Palace Museum

📍 Łódź, PL🕒 1–3 hours€€ Moderate

The Herbst Palace Museum in Łódź is a Neo-Renaissance villa with a garden, once the residence of the Herbst and Scheibler families, industrial magnates of the 19th century. Now a branch of the Museum of Art in Łódź, it features three main exhibitions. The permanent exhibition 'Historical House' showcases lavishly furnished interiors with furniture, paintings, and decorative arts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Another permanent exhibition, 'Unfinished Stories,' tells the tale of two generations of the Herbst family, their economic successes and philanthropic activities, using archival photographs and films. In the Gallery of Old Art, the temporary exhibition 'School of Gaze. City' encourages reflection on the urban landscape through a dialogue of photography and words. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, on Thursdays until 7:00 PM, closed on Mondays. On-site amenities include a café and toilets, with public transport nearby. It is suitable for everyone – families, school groups, seniors, and art and history enthusiasts.
