📍 Kraków, PL

Przegorzały Castle, also known as Zinar Castle, is a monumental structure towering over the Vistula valley in Kraków. From its terrace, on a clear day, you can even see the Tatra Mountains. The history of this place dates back to the late 1920s, when architect Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz designed the Villa Baszta. During World War II, in 1941, construction began on a castle in the style of Rhine fortresses, intended as a residence for Baron Otto von Wächter, officially serving as a sanatorium for SS officers. After the war, the building housed scientific institutes. Today, Castle Hill is a hotel complex featuring the five-star boutique hotel Zinar Castle with a spa carved into the rock, including a pool and saunas. For over 35 years, the authorial Ziyad Restaurant has been operating here, serving Kurdish cuisine, with terraces and arcades offering views of the Vistula and the surroundings. Inside the castle, you can admire sculptures, paintings, and stained glass, and attend meetings with artists. An integral part of the hotel is the historic Villa Baszta with a fireplace lounge and apartments. The area is rich in attractions: Wolski Forest, Camaldolese Monastery, Kościuszko Mound, Srebrna Góra Vineyard, and the Zoo, as well as numerous walking and cycling trails. The castle is not open for sightseeing, but you can admire it from the outside or visit the restaurant with its viewing terrace.
