Zamek Międzylesie

Międzylesie Castle is a vast complex occupying an entire block of the market square. Its history dates back to the 14th century – the first castle was built in 1370 but was destroyed during the Hussite Wars. Only the Black Tower with its viewing gallery survived from that original structure. The current form was shaped between 1580 and 1590 when the von Tschirnhaus family built a Renaissance manor, and then between 1686 and 1695 Baroque wings were added to a design by Jacobo Carove. The complex comprises two parts: the older, polygonal part with a courtyard, and the representative front wing facing the market square. The entrance leads through two diagonal gates, stone statues of Faith and Justice, a bridge over a dry moat, and a portal. Inside, there is a ballroom with original fireplaces and tiled stoves. The courtyard features arcaded cloisters and a curtain wall with gates bearing the date 1580. From 1653 to 1945, the castle was owned by the Counts of Althan. The castle is open for visits from Monday to Sunday except Tuesday–Thursday. It is suitable for families and anyone interested in the history of the Kłodzko Valley.
