Wang Church

Wang Church in Upper Karpacz is a unique wooden temple, moved from Norway in the 19th century. Built at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries from Norwegian pine, it is one of the best-preserved stavkirke churches in Europe. Its distinctive feature is the construction without nails – all elements were joined using only carpentry joints. The church was purchased by King Frederick William IV of Prussia, then dismantled, packed into crates, and transported by sea and land to Karpacz. It was officially opened in July 1844. Inside, original portals, carved Nordic lions, and corner posts have been preserved. A visit takes about a dozen minutes, and at the entrance you can listen to a recording about the church's history. Next to it is the ticket office of the Karkonosze National Park. The church is open all year round, and the bus stop 'Karpacz Wang' provides easy access. It is a must-see for architecture and history enthusiasts, and a great starting point for hiking trails in the Karkonosze Mountains.
