Lake Torfy

Lake Torfy is an artificial reservoir located in the Wawer district of Warsaw, in the Aleksandrów estate, about 100 meters from the Southern Warsaw Bypass. It was created in a former peat excavation site and covers approximately 6 hectares. Surrounded by forests, it forms a quiet green oasis on the outskirts of the capital, perfect for escaping the urban hustle. The lake lies within the Mazovian Landscape Park and the planned Biały Ług nature reserve. Its shores are overgrown with dense reeds, where cottongrass blooms in spring, and one can also find the rare carnivorous plant – the round-leaved sundew. The area is home to numerous bird species, and near the water one may encounter harmless grass snakes. Visitors can use a tourist shelter and a fishing pier stretching over the quagmire, offering picturesque views. Nearby forests feature the hiking trail „Na przedpolach stolicy” and two cycling routes: the blue one from Anin to Falenica (22 km) and the black loop from Aleksandrów to Międzylesie (27 km). The site is open all year round and can be reached by public transport from central Warsaw in just over an hour. It is an ideal destination for a family stroll or a relaxing trip for anyone seeking contact with nature without leaving the city.
