Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Inwałdzkiej Inwałd

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Inwałd is located in Inwałd, Lesser Poland. The Baroque church was built in 1747 and houses the miraculous image of Our Lady of Inwałd. Painted in the 15th century in Scandinavia, it was brought to Poland in 1534. According to legend, robbers stole the painting in Hungary and placed it on poles in a pond. The prior Augustyn Kordecki defeated the bandits, and their leader converted, donating the image to the church. Since then, Our Lady has been known as the Robbers' Lady. The original image burned in 1885 but was faithfully recreated from a 19th-century photograph. The single-nave church has side apses and polychrome paintings from 1928. Pilgrims visit especially during the indulgences in July and September.
