Kościuszko Mound Kraków

Kościuszko Mound is one of five mounds in Kraków, located on the Bronisława Hill in the western part of the city. It was erected between 1820 and 1823 to honor Tadeusz Kościuszko, the leader of the 1794 insurrection. The initiative came from the residents, and people of all ages, including students and veterans, took part in the construction. A granite stone with the inscription 'Kościuszce' was placed at the summit. Between 1850 and 1856, a citadel fort named 'Kościuszko' was built around the mound, which later served various purposes, including a hotel and a radio station. In 1997, the mound was severely damaged by heavy rains, and after renovation it was reopened to visitors in 2002. Today, the summit offers a beautiful view of Kraków and its surroundings, and near the mound there are exhibition halls with a display dedicated to Kościuszko. It is a popular spot for walks for both locals and tourists, with a café, a gift shop, and guided tours available.
