Zittau Mountains
The Zittau Mountains are a picturesque range in southeastern Saxony, close to the borders with Poland and the Czech Republic. They are part of the Lusatian Mountains and offer a peaceful retreat away from the crowds. The region is known for its unique rock formations, well-marked trails, and charming towns. The central point is Oybin, where the ruins of a medieval castle and a monastery sit atop a hill. The complex is beautifully integrated into the sandstone rocks, and its terraces provide panoramic views. A ride on the Zittau narrow-gauge railway is also a highlight. Oybin itself has a spa character, with half-timbered houses and a Baroque church. It is an ideal destination for families, couples, and groups who enjoy nature and history. A visit can easily take a full day, and tourist facilities include restaurants, cafés, and parking areas.
