Krakow Fortress

📍 Kraków, PLFree🕒 4+ hours

Krakow Fortress is a 19th-century fortification system built by the Austrians around Krakow. It consists of three rings of fortifications, including forts, bastions, and redoubts, designed to protect the city from attack. Today, many of the structures are open to visitors, and some have been repurposed, such as Fort Skała, which houses the Astronomical Observatory of the Jagiellonian University. Walking the fortress trail lets you discover Krakow's military heritage and enjoy panoramic views from forts on the hills. It is an attraction for history enthusiasts, families, and school groups. Entry to most forts is free, and there are cafes and public transport stops nearby. Guided tours provide deeper insight into the history of this unique monument.
