Biecz

Biecz is a historic town in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, situated in the valley of the Ropa River in the Carpathian Foothills, at an altitude of about 281 meters above sea level. It is often called Little Kraków, the Pearl of Podkarpacie, or Polish Carcassonne due to its well-preserved medieval defensive walls with towers. The town boasts numerous monuments that can be visited as part of the Museum of the Biecz Region. Key attractions include the House with a Tower – a Renaissance tenement from 1523 that housed the region's first pharmacy; Kromerówka – a tenement from 1519 commemorating Marcin Kromer; the Kowalska Tower – an element of Gothic fortifications; the late-Gothic Collegiate Church of Corpus Christi from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries; and the Town Hall Tower, 56 meters high, offering a panoramic view of the town. The town hall also houses the School of Executioners – a museum dedicated to the history of the executioner, referencing the famous executions that took place here in the past. On the outskirts of town, there is the Church of St. Anne and the Reformed Monastery. It is also worth visiting the nearby wooden church in Binarowa, considered one of the most beautiful in Poland.
